Blog Challenge "100 posts in 100 days" Post #13
First, I am a human. Second, I am a woman. Third, I am an American. I could go on and on and on, and by the time I listed whether or not I am a republican or democrat I would at least be in the 200's.
I can scroll through my Facebook feed and within a minute I can find at least one or two posts that refer to the "Dems" or "they" and it makes me wonder if the person who made the post put any thought into the fact that they were referring to their family, friends, co-workers, neighbors.
The people you are reducing to a single label are just that, people. Please think before you post, we are all uniquely us and have our reasons, be it our beliefs, opinions, life experiences or a variety of other factors because we live in a country where people fight to give us that right.
No one likes to be stereotyped or pigeonholed. We live in a time where acceptance can't be assumed, and tolerance is at an all-time low.
I'm only speaking for myself when I say this, but I want to have conversations with people who don't think like me because that is the only way to see things from a different perspective, to look at the world through a different lens.
The people who are on the other side of the aisle from you are not your enemy. We have enough enemies. They aren't stupid, or inferior, or uneducated. They have their reasons for the stance they take and if we could be brave enough to try and listen to understand, imagine the things we could accomplish!
